There are too many bathrooms which look alike. It is no surprise when there are beautiful bathroom fixtures and fittings available from places such as Ideal Standard Outlet that many people get kitted out with rooms which look lovely but perhaps lack individuality. However, it is possible to get such beautiful bathrooms and add your own personality. Include one of the following upcycling ideas to your bathroom décor to make yours different from the rest.
Vintage Taps as hooks
There are various places you can get hold of beautiful vintage taps – second-hand shops, salvage yards and sales rooms. These are great to utilize as hooks for towels which you can mount on wooden blocks or hang on the back of the bathroom door.
Wooden Pallet for Storage
Stain a pallet and mount it on the wall. Attach mason jars to the wood using hose clamps (available in a lot of hardware shops) and you have yourself a quirky storage solution for your toothbrushes, small toiletries, and flannels.
Mason Jar Soap Dispenser
Mason jars are the up cyclist’s best friend. As well as spraying them in colors of your choice and using them as candle holders, they make great soap dispensers. All you need is a plastic pump which fits the top. They look great in country cottage chic style homes.
Vintage Suitcase as Medicine Cabinet
This will turn up the quirkiness factor in your bathroom at least three notches. Mount a nice looking old fashioned case above your sink and install plywood shelves to store your essentials. You could even attach a mirror to the front.
Old Chair Back as Towel Holder
Something which I find (possibly disproportionately) annoying is not having enough space to hang towels in my bathroom. Choose a chair which suits the look you are going for in your home – you may want something minimalist or a more ornate design – and attach with brackets to your wall for an elegant towel rail.
Tennis Racquet Mirror
This makes for a great looking retro mirror. Carefully cutting a mirror into the oval shape of an old-fashioned tennis racquet, place it inside the frame and attach using some industrial strength glue. If you like the idea of this but are not a confident enough up cyclist – you can buy retro tennis racquet mirrors here.
Step Ladder Towel Holder
Another towel holder idea! Step ladders can also be used for a variety of things. As well as plant stands (plants complete any bathroom) they also make for great rustic towel holders. Even ordinary ladders can be used for this purpose.
Old Tile Mosaic
Whether this is strictly upcycling is debatable but smashing up disused tiles of varying designs can make for a uniquely beautiful decorative wall.
